HOOTENANNY
How many hours did you spend in the cold
school gym, with foot-stomping rhythms playing on the Boom-Box and your gym teacher hollering for you to find-a-partner-and-doh-see-doh already? Well, those hours are about to pay off - bust out your hoop skirts & dust off your cowboy boots! The Junction Project presents November's Family Dance Party; The Hootenanny!
No need to dig deep into your memory for the how-to, we'll have a caller accompanying our live fiddle band. Did we mention it's a LIVE FIDDLE BAND?! How cool is that?
So come & enjoy some amazing live music while our kidlets promenade (see? I paid attention all those years ago) on the dance floor!
Tickets are on sale now at Kid Culture (3124 Dundas West) and are $10 each, babes in arms free.
With
The Junction old time string band.
. Old time Appalachian fiddle tunes
Georgina Blanchard fiddle, Tim Bradford guitar, Travis McCauley banjo. The caller is Peg Evans, a Canadian opera co chorus member and Waldorf trained music teacher.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME SWAP
There's a chill in the air and the kids are settling back into school, so it must be time to think Halloween right? Yes, it’s time to tackle the dress up bin and trade out all the old too small costumes for fun new to you, and ones that fit again. Let's green this Halloween and swap costumes!
Kid Culture, Pitter Potter, Diana Nazareth Photography, Green Moms Collective and Play Me Mama present the 2nd Annual Junction Halloween Costume Swap.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5th at Kid Culture, 3124 Dundas St W Toronto, ON. Costumes and accessories to be swapped can be dropped off at Kid Culture from Sunday September 22nd till Friday October 4th.
How it works: From Sunday September 22nd till Friday October 4th you bring in all the costumes of Halloween's past that no longer fit, or are no longer wanted at your house to Kid Culture (clean please!). We'll give you a swap ticket for every costume you bring in and then on Saturday October 5th from 10 am till 6 pm come back and take home some new to you costumes. No costumes from Halloween's past haunting your house yet, no problem you can buy a costume from the swap stash for a $5.00 donation to The Redwood, a safe haven for Woman and Children fleeing abuse. Kid Culture carries locally produced costumes in the shop and you'll want to book a Halloween party with Pitter Potter.
Diana Nazareth Photography will be set up with a Photo Booth, Play Me Mama will have costumes for sale, Green Moms Collective has green info for you to share and hopefully we will have some fun workshops for your little ones to enjoy also

Kid Culture Creates Work Shops For Kids
For the Grand Opening of Kid Culture's new location
on June 1st,
we're having a
Tote Bag making workshop.
In this workshop, each student is provided with a handmade natural cotton tote bag to personalize and decorate using a heat transfer technique, transferring student’s colourful images from paper to the tote.
Come meet Keiley of Leikey Designs our Workshop Leader whose kid-at-heart personality and background in textiles and craft workshops makes for the perfect combination for the Kid Culture Creates workshops
Each workshop is about 45mins - 1hr (about enough time to peruse the goodies in the shop)
In every workshop, kids will create and complete their very own personalized project they can take home, use and be proud of.
It's amazing what kids can make with a few materials and instruction - about the same amount of time to sit down and relax with a cup of coffee at the local shops in The Junction!
Space is limited for this workshop so don't forget to register.

KID CULTURE CREATES FOR ADULTS MAKING AN UP CYCLED DRESS
Saturday June 8th 1pm -4pm
MATERIALS FOR UP CYCLED GIRLS DRESS:
1. Pick a t-shirt that fits your child nicely. Try to avoid anything that has gathers or that is really slim fitting like a tank-top. We are going to be playing around with several different design options so bring something that has a print on the very top of the shirt, is a solid colour, a print.
2. Bring in 5-6 other T-shirts (we only use about 1/4 of the shirt so you can use the extra material for making additional dresses). Bring in different colours, prints, stripes, dots, solids ect. It is good to have variety so I would bring approx half prints and half solids. I also recommend bringing adult sized t-shirts in as it will fit the design better.
3. Matching and coordinating thread
*******4. Please have your child put on the top and measure from the center front of the top of the T-shirt to where you would like the hem of the dress (sizes are approx we just do not want to make the dress to long or too short).
****WE WILL PROBABLY HAVE TIME TO MAKE AN ADDITIONAL DRESS SO FEEL FREE TO BRING IN MATERIALS FOR A SECOND DRESS
Additional tools: Sewing machine, sewing needles, scissors, pins, tailors chalk,
If you have a rotary cutter, grid ruler and rotary mat this would also be helpful (I will be bringing some in but we will have to share).
Cost $60.00

BASIC SEWING CLASS FOR ADULTS
MATERIALS FOR BASIC SEWING CLASS:
In the basic sewing class we will be learning to construct pillows. The best part of pillows is that we can use so many different kinds of materials, textures, prints, designs, anything and everything you love.
1. Please bring something with an interesting design as the focal point such as a vintage needle point design, pretty print on a table cloth or other type of material or a fun design on a t-shirt. If you bring a t-shirt please make sure that is at least 1 inch on all 4 sides of the design so that there is enough from to cut the design out.
2. Pillow form (any size you like). If using a big needle point I recommend a 20" x 20" pillow form. If using a t-shirt design 14" x 14" is good (check to see your design will fit).
3. Contrasting materials for a boarder. You can use one colour or you can bring scraps of 4 or more materials to make an interesting design.
4. Contrasting materials for the back of the pillow.
5. Matching and contrasting thread.
Cost $60.00
